RN to BSN Online Classes and Their Duration
The durations of different RN to BSN online degrees may indeed vary, but they rarely go above the two-year mark. The nature of online degrees means that they have some advantages that campus ones do not, but also have disadvantages at the same time. The true benefits of online learning may only be reaped by mature, self-motivating people.
Most RN degrees ask for the student to dedicate 2 years of studying to them. It may come as a course offering a Nursing Associate degree (which is normally two years) or Nursing diploma (which may take up to three years, but definitely not four). This course is often provided by colleges, especially those of the vocational type in the country.
Those who do complete the program still have another hurdle to overcome: the examination that determines whether a nurse may be licensed or not. There are different NCLEXs for different states, and they all determine whether or not you may practice your trade. Due to the NCLEX’s variation across states, you may be required to undergo more than one such exam if you ever do have to transfer your home and occupation to another state.
In several states, you may be allowed to take the exams and work as a practicing nurse after passing the NCLEX, though many hospitals will require that you pursue a Bachelor’s degree. Taking up an RN to BSN course is a norm nowadays, whether the nurse in question decides to do it in a campus or via the Internet. Most American employers prefer a nurse with a Bachelor’s degree.
The usual BSN course is twice as long as an RN course. While the more generalized courses are included in a BSN program, the more specialized ones are as well. Not all universities have the same program content for the course.
You typically require the same amount of time to finish an RN-BSN program as a BSN program. RN-to-BSNs are typically found in the same academies as BSN courses. There are also fast-track courses that require a shorter time of study.
The first two years of a 4-year BSN program is typically composed of general subjects. Most BSN programs dedicate the last two years of studies to more specific classes. Your typical BSN class is going to give you material on the topics of Pharmacology, Anatomy, and many more areas of specialization.
Because nursing is a profession that requires heavy involvement with others, behavioral science classes are par for the course here. Nursing is no average profession, which is why the coursework is not average either. A nurse not only gives patient care but also does social work responsibilities and a little psychology when handling difficult patients.
There are several classes that are a given if you do take up a nursing degree, like the Fundamentals of Healthcare. The courses are made to provide program members an introduction to the work they shall have after graduation. They may be asked to take care of very old patients and very young infants on several occasions.
Keep in mind that RN to BSN online courses are meant for those who know where they want to go next with their careers. Enhancing job competency is now possible in many ways due to the Internet. You may even find a few websites compiling the latest events in RN-BSN schools for added data.
